Stuck? Most problems are one of the ones below. If yours isn't, email contact@polyology.co and a real person will get back to you, usually within a day. Tell us your TV brand and model, your iPhone model, and what you see.
The app can't find my TV
- Make sure your iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some mesh "isolation" settings keep devices apart.
- Check that Boring Remote can see your network: iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Boring Remote should be on.
- Turn the TV on. Many TVs stop answering when they're fully off.
- On a Roku, go to Settings › System › Advanced system settings › Control by mobile apps and set Network access to Default.
- Still nothing? Add the TV by its IP address. You'll find it in the TV's network settings.
The TV asked me to allow or enter a code
That's normal the first time. Samsung and LG show an Allow prompt on screen. Fire TV and Vizio show a PIN to type into the app, and Google TV shows a code. You only do this once per TV.
If you tapped Deny on a Samsung by mistake, open Settings › General › External Device Manager › Device Connection Manager › Device List on the TV, remove Boring Remote, and try again.
Power on doesn't work
Turning a TV off is easy, but turning it back on needs the TV to keep listening while it sleeps. Turn on the setting for your TV:
- Samsung: Settings › General › Network › Expert Settings › Power On with Mobile
- LG: Settings › General › Devices › TV Management, then turn on Turn on via Wi-Fi (older models call it Mobile TV On)
- Roku TV: Settings › System › Power › Fast TV start
If your TV still won't wake, Pro can turn it on through Apple Home or a Broadlink IR blaster.
Buttons are slow or stop working
Close the app fully and open it again. If it keeps happening, restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute. Some TVs drop connections after a firmware update.
Restore Pro on a new iPhone
Sign in with the same Apple Account, open Boring Remote, go to the Pro screen and tap Restore Purchase. There's nothing else to pay.
Refunds
Apple handles payments, so refunds go through Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, find Boring Remote, and choose Request a refund. If anything goes wrong, email us and we'll help.
